Main Page Location Building Type Architect Chronology

This site is designed as a visual reference library for Prof. Richardson's course on Canadian Architecture.

It is currently under construction and therefore has many images that still need to be added.

Please address any questions or comments about this site to
Gordon Bell
web site designer, or
Peggy Haist
Fine Art History Slide Librarian

The site is arranged according to four main categories located on the left frame column:

Course information is located on the Main Page icon. If you are using a browser that cannot display frames versions, the same categories can be accessed from the top of each page.

As this site will contain one to two thousand images in a comprehensive survey of Canadian Architecture, we have tried to limit the size of thumbnails and loading time of pages by breaking it into many sub-divisions that are inter-linked. To view a full screen view of a thumbnail, click the image within its site. To return to the page, click the back button on the browser. If the page is too slow reloading, click the stop button which will stop the images from loading and click the image name only to view the full screen image.

To view a building's architect, click the architect's name at the bottom of the images; to view similar building types, click the building type category; to view buildings of the same period, click the date at the bottom. To return to the buildings by location, click the location name above the image site.

For General searches by location, click the area of the image map found in location, or scroll down to search by cities.

To search by Building Types click one of the ten groups:

Each group is sub-divided into categories which can be accessed by clicking each building type group.

To search by architect, click the architect icon and then the architect's name.

To search by chronology, click the chronology icon and then the time period.

Research and Design

The Canadian Architecture Web Site images have been selected by Douglas Richardson from his personal slide collection and that of the UofT Fine Art History Slide Collection.
