Ed Pien Toronto, ON

An Invocation of Unease

Video (approximately 20 minutes)

Location: 2 monitors on top of the air conditioning unit in the Arbor Room

My work advances my interest in fear and vulnerability, as explored in my projects incorporating notions of ghosts and themes of transformation. The façade and interior of Hart House remind me of many scary films that I have seen in the past. The tinge of unease that I often felt when going down its long dark corridors or entering into a vast hall, compelled me to make this particular work. The ways in which I confront or negotiate my way through life are influenced so much by what has been inculcated into me -- aside from what I have actually experienced . . . I am not as objective as I like to believe I am.
